Windows 10 as we know it will be released on July 29. According to rumors circulating over the weekend, Windows 10 is officially entering the RTM Escrow development phase starting today.
This means that starting today, Microsoft will no longer be adding new features and capabilities to its new operating system. The entire development team will focus on bug hunting to improve performance before the official release at the end of July.
Russian leaker WZor (once again) reports that Microsoft has opened a new development branch called winmain_rtm. Of course, we can't know for sure as there's no confirmation from the company.
But the leak seems to make sense, as Windows moving into the RTM Escrow development stage today would be something that Microsoft's Gabriel Aul, who is also the head of the Windows Insider program, has already announced.
Mr. Gabriel Aul has already announced earlier this month that the company's focus will shift to bug fixes and performance improvements, instead of adding new features.
Considering the fact that we are only a month and a half away from the official launch, WZor's report on RTM Escrow doesn't seem too far from the truth.
Despite the fact that Windows 10 has reached the RTM Escrow stage, Microsoft is still releasing new builds to those enrolled in the Windows Insider program, mainly because the company needs more users to find bugs.
Let us remind you that Windows 10 is expected to be released on July 29 for everyone and will be available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 users during the first year of availability.
The price of the new operating system will start at $120 for those who do not have Windows 7 and 8 or the version they are using is a pirated copy of Windows.
