Microsoft confirmed last month that Windows 10 will be released this summer in 190 countries and 111 languages. The company also said that the mobile version of the OS won't be ready until the fall.
Today, Microsoft announced more details about the versions of Windows 10 that will be released this year. Yes, there will be more than one version, and one of them will be Windows 10 Mobile.
According to Microsoft, Windows 10 Mobile Edition is “designed to provide a better user experience on smaller, mobile, and touch-centric devices like smartphones and small tablets.”
Windows 10 Mobile will also run the universal Windows apps included in Windows 10 Home, which will be released this summer, along with the new touch-optimized version of Office.
This version of Windows for smartphones and tablets is aimed at customers who use their personal devices at work. In addition to all the features listed, Windows 10 Mobile will also enable some new devices to use Continuum for phones.
This means that users who have smartphones with Continuum hardware will be able to use them like a computer when they connect them to a larger screen.
The second Windows operating system for mobile phones that Microsoft announced is called Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise. The platform aims to “deliver a better experience to enterprise customers with smartphones and tablets.”
According to Microsoft, Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise will be available to its Volume Licensing customers, and will offer improved productivity, security, and device management capabilities.
In addition to everything Windows 10 Mobile offers, the Enterprise edition will feature "flexible ways for businesses to manage updates.".
Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise, according to the company, will also include the latest security features that Microsoft will make available immediately after their release.
Microsoft also confirmed that the Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise edition will also be available for devices such as ATMs, retail point-of-sale systems, handheld terminals, and industrial robotics systems.
