The second generation of Google Glass could be released at any moment, despite rumors that the company has abandoned the project. The CEO of Italian eyewear maker Luxottica, Massimo Vian, said yesterday in Milan that the features of the upcoming device will be released soon.
Vian's company became one of Google's partners in March 2014. Viam could not reveal the exact launch date.
Led by Tony Fadell, who leads marketing, Google seems to be trying to portray the second-generation Glasses not just as a device for tech nerds, but as a useful product for everyone.
Vian said, according to Phonearena, that version 2 of Google Glassis already in preparation and that the development team is working on ideas for version 3.
Google Glass project manager Ivy Ross has already said that the next version of Glass will be cheaper (the first model cost $1,500), offer better visuals and sound quality, and will also be equipped with a longer battery life.
To date, however, none of the above seems to have been an obstacle to the product's sales.
Rather, external factors do not accept and establish the product in the consumer's consciousness. Bars, restaurants, and cinemas banned the entry of "Glassholes" into their theaters, considering the users of the glasses to be anything from dangerous to "ridiculous."
This is probably Ross' biggest problem. How will he manage to soften the image of the product, transforming it from something only stalkers use to a product that most people could wear.
