Kaspersky Phound! New free app available on Google Play

Kaspersky Lab presents Phound!,a new free application for Android systems that helps users protect their mobile devices and personal data. The name Phound! comes from the words “phone” and “hound”. The purpose of the new application is to help quickly locate lost gadgets and protect the valuable information stored on them, protecting them from “prying eyes”.Phound

According to a survey of Internet users, in the last year, on average, one in 20 respondents lost their smartphone or tablet as a result of carelessness or theft. The corresponding figure for Europeans was 4%. At the same time, 36% of European respondents admitted that their devices contained confidential data that they would definitely not want to fall into the wrong hands. Kaspersky Phound! was developed to prevent such worrying situations.

Phound! enables remote control of devices and the data stored on them via the My Kaspersky. If a device is lost or stolen, users can block its operation, thus preventing unauthorized access to it. They can also locate the device via GPS, GSM network or Wi-Fi network. To make searching for the device even easier, users can take photos with its front camera or display a message on the device’s screen.

If the phone or tablet is lost at home or at the office, the user can locate it with the help of the “Alarm” function. By activating this function, the device produces a loud sound that continues until the owner enters a secret code. As a final solution, the owner can use Phound! to remove all personal data from the device and remotely delete the SD card, including contacts, messages, photos, etc. Additionally, the user can perform a permanent reset of the device if required.

“For many users, mobile devices serve as storage for their most valuable and important data, such as contacts of friends and colleagues, personal messages, private photos, and more. This means that today’s smartphones and tablets need to be as secure as a bank vault. However, unlike vaults, smartphones are small, portable, and can be easily lost. That’s why we created a solution that ensures that mobile devices don’t fall into the wrong hands,” said Alexey Chikov, Senior Product Manager at Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky Phound! is available in 8 languages on Google Play, the official app store for Android devices. The app complements Kaspersky Lab’s portfolio of free and “freemium” mobile products for home users. This range includes Kaspersky Safe Browser (for iOS and Windows Phone), Kaspersky QR Scan, Kaspersky Threat Scan, Kaspersky Internet Security for Android and Kaspersky Password Manager (for iOS and Android).
