Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10036 leaked yesterday, giving us an idea of what we'll see in the upcoming Technical Preview build that Microsoft will release.
Note: We do not recommend updating through unofficial channels. It would be best to wait until the new operating system is released through the Windows Insider Program.
An interesting feature that is part of build 10036 is the ability to download updates from third parties and not only directly from Microsoft, as we have known until today. The new feature includes computers from a local network, as well as generally computers that are connected to the Internet.
The new Windows Update is already available in the leaked build 10036 and comes with an option that says “get updates from more than one place.” The company says in the description of the new tool “to get your updates faster.”
Basically, with Windows 10, Microsoft implements a technology that works more or less like BitTorrent, and will allow its clients to download updates from other computers that have already obtained them, either from Microsoft or from other computers.
Naturally, users will not have the ability to choose the computers they want to download the updates from, because the connections will likely be created automatically based on transfer speed.
While the new tool could be described as revolutionary as it will accelerate the entire update download process, it also raises some other questions related to security.
By allowing Windows 10 computers to connect to each other, Microsoft is also opening up new connections that could be exploited by malicious third parties, unless they have taken care of their absolute and very strong encryption.
Whatever the case, we will only have definite answers after the official release of Windows 10, which is expected in the second half of 2015. The RTM is expected to be released during the summer.
