Project Spartan: details and images

New details and images of the Windows 10 browser, Spartan , currently being developed by Microsoft, have leaked online.Spartan

The Spartan browser is intriguing as it is a new beginning from the company that has realized that Internet Explorer has disappointed a lot of people. But let's take a closer look at the brand new browser of Windows 10 that it seems will be the default browser. The images come from the well-known Russian Windows leaker WZor.

Import

As you may already know, the new browser is a modern implementation. It is built on top of the Internet Explorer rendering engine, but legacy template support has been removed from the Spartan engine. This allows it to be fast and focused only on web standards and technologies. Although it has not been confirmed, Project Spartan is expected to have a more flexible model for adding add-ons. It comes with a modern title bar, as you can see below:Windows 10 Spartan user interface

Although the application window is resizable, its height is limited. This is because all modern Windows 10 applications have a vertical size limit. As for the horizontal size of the window, you can set it to any width you want without any problems: sizable window

Tablet mode support

When you run Windows in Tablet mode, it hides the bookmarks bar and reduces the size of the top part of the window.

When Tablet mode is inactive, Spartan shows an additional bookmarks bar and a taller window top.

In the image below, you can see the bookmarklet running on the desktop (left) and on a Tablet (right):table-mode desktop-mode

In Desktop mode, the top of Spartan takes up 256px from the window frame to the web page content. That's a lot of height. In contrast, with the Favorites bar enabled, the Desktop version of Internet Explorer takes up only 85px. In Windows 7, with the menu bar, Favorites bar, Command Prompt, and tabs in a separate row enabled, the Desktop version of IE reaches 130px.

Menus and options

Currently, the Spartan browser has minimal options and settings. For example, the browser's main menu only includes the following items:browser menu

New window – opens a new browser window (but not a new instance!).
Zoom – sets the zoom option.
Share – share the page you opened using the default Share charm like in Windows 8.
Find – search for specific text in the open tab.
Settings – opens the browser settings.

Each tab that opens has its own menu, just like in any other browser.

As for Spartan's global settings, you can see them in the image below.options

Here you can disable or enable the Favorites bar, phone number detection, SmartScreen, set your own homepage, and customize Reading View options.
These are the only options that work at this stage, while the other options you see in the image above have not worked.

Cortana function

The Cortana feature is perhaps the most anticipated feature of the upcoming Spartan browser as it is something that makes it truly unique.Contrana search

Cortana can help you find relevant information, using the power of the web and the intelligence of Bing. The integration of course into Microsoft's browser is something groundbreaking. The information from Cortana will appear in a separate Spartan window after your request is processed.

Closure

The new browser is currently unfinished and not quite ready for everyday use. It has stability issues and often crashes when you have multiple tabs open. It has nothing to do with Internet Explorer, so you'll essentially have two different browsers from Microsoft, each with its own settings and preferences. Spartan also doesn't support ActiveX.

Microsoft is set to announce the new default browser with the upcoming versions of Windows 10. It wouldn't be a surprise if they make IE optional.
