Mega founder Kim Dotcom saved Christmas for many PlayStation and Xbox gamers. He describes it as a Christmas miracle, as Kim Dotcom appears to have stopped the DDoS attacks carried out by Lizard Squad by giving away 3,000 free Mega accounts, worth $99 each.
When Kim Dotcom tried to play Xbox (he is known to spend a lot of time gaming) he was greeted with an unpleasant surprise. The same surprise was faced by thousands of other Xbox and Playstation gamers who wanted to try out their Christmas gifts.
Lizard Squad, who have repeatedly DDoSed the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, have struck again with an unsolicited Christmas present. A new DDoS attack has brought both networks to a standstill.
Kim Dotcom, instead of cursing the Lizard Squad, decided to make them an offer.
"Hey LizardMafia, I want to play #Destiny on Xbox LIVE. I'll give away a whole bunch of free lifetime Mega account vouchers if we play. Cool?" he tweeted.
Lizard Squad was apparently pleased and responded that they were willing to stop the attacks in exchange for 3,000 free cloud hosting vouchers.
After getting approval from Mega's management team, Dotcom and Lizard Squad finally came to an agreement via Twitter.

Once the free accounts came into the possession of the Lizard Squad, the attacks stopped and Christmas was saved.
“Thank you Kim Dotcom for the coupons – you are the reason we stopped the attacks. Mega Privacy is an awesome service,” Lizard Squad wrote, confirming the successful intervention.
Dotcom, meanwhile, is happy to be able to play on the XBOX network, and wishes he could solve all his problems with free accounts. But the US Department of Justice probably won't accept free Mega accounts.
“Apparently, diplomacy works. I would recommend the US government give it a try. #MakeLoveNotWar #UseMegaVouchers,” Kim wrote.
Of course, there's no guarantee that Lizard Squad will keep their promise in the coming days, but Dotcom has stated that he will cancel the accounts if the attacks continue.
