Internet mogul Kim Dotcom. His bail hearing in New Zealand was adjourned on Friday and will resume on Monday. The charges against him claim that Kim Dotcom is a dangerous person and should go to prison.
Dotcom appears to have prepared an excellent line of defense to avoid being sent to the US where he would face prosecution for copyright infringement and extortion.
However, things have not been going well for Dotcom lately, especially after his reckless move to enter politics through the party he founded (Internet Party) earlier this year.
He has lost public sympathy, has separated from his wife Mona, who now appears to have control of the remaining family assets.
It should also be mentioned that Dotcom has been abandoned by the law firm that supported him for several years.
At a hearing that began on Thursday in Auckland District Court, the charges brought against him allege that Dotcom breached the terms of his bail in 2012.
Of course, much of the hearing focused on Dotcom's finances, and here's the interesting part.
Mr. Kim Dotcom still enjoys a very wealthy and eccentric lifestyle.
The expenses he was forced to admit in court this week included $10 million in legal fees, $4.5 million in funding for the Internet Party, $80,000 a month in rent and another million for the music album he released, “Good Times.”.
The "good times" are probably over for Dotcom, since in addition to the aforementioned amounts, there are also investments of $40 million in new businesses that now belong to his family and he is no longer the beneficiary.
The charges against him also state that Dotcom was trying to sell a Rolls Royce, which had been seized along with other assets, and to contact his former colleagues at Megaupload, something that was not allowed by the terms of his bail.
Dotcom denied the charges.
The lawsuit also asked Dotcom personal questions, asking him how much time he spends playing online games each day.
Dotcom replied that he plays for an hour or two a day, except when Call of Duty and Modern Warfare were released, when he played for 30 hours straight to become number one in the world.
