Microsoft has just announced a major new improvement to Bing, which allows the search engine to "chat" with anyone searching for information on the Internet.
This new feature, which brings Bing's search engine closer to Cortana, is available to everyone using the US version of the service starting today. We expect the new service to be available globally in the coming days.
All you need to do to try it out is type a query into Bing and then continue the “conversation” with another question related to the results you received.
If that doesn't make much sense to you, Microsoft provides another explanation that includes a few examples:
“Today we’re taking it a step further. Starting today, not only will we give you the answer directly in the search results, but we’ll also continue the conversation. For example, you can ask “who is the president of the United States” and we’ll show you the answer. From there, you can ask, “who is his wife” or “how tall is he.”
That is, Bing will remember the original question and answer you with that as a basis.
Although Bing's new feature only works with text you've typed into the search box, we expect the same options to be available soon to those who wish to use voice commands, likely with the help of Cortana.
It should be mentioned that Cortana, the company's personal assistant, can also search Bing, but it cannot yet have conversations based on the results it receives.
