F -Secure, the well-known provider of security solutions, announced its partnership with Facebook to help users block and eliminate malware from their systems, for free.
“With F-Secure technology, Facebook will offer a browser-based malware scanner as a free service. The service will be available to Facebook users whose accounts have been temporarily suspended due to suspicious activity caused by a possible malware infection,” the announcement says.
You can see a similar scanner on the security company’s website.
Naturally the company means the malicious software or the unwanted software that exists on computers, it can disrupt the performance of the device, steal information, or gain access to a system, to Facebook users and the victim's friends, it can send malicious links or spam that appears to come from legitimate user accounts.
“Helping people stay safe on Facebook is an extremely important part of our services and we are pleased to add the power of F-Secure technology's anti-virus to our existing services to block and eliminate malware”, said Chetan Gowda, software engineer at Facebook.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Facebook to stop cybercriminals from exploiting social network users for malicious purposes”, said Arto Saari, product manager of F-Secure.
How will the new service work?
When Facebook discovers an account that behaves suspiciously, it will redirect the user to the cleanup process, i.e., to the online scanner. The entire scanning process will be performed directly in the browser window, by Facebook. Afterwards, users can safely log back into their Facebook account, safe from danger.
It will also be possible to bypass the malware removal process or download the recommended scanner from the website.
Those who download and execute the scanner will be able to continue using Facebook and other services during the process.
