After the first 4K resolution televisions and the first laptop with a 4K screen, the industry is preparing to bring to the market the first tablet with an ultra-high resolution screen.
Japanese display panel maker Japan Display (JDI) has announced that it has manufactured the world's first tablet display, measuring 10.1 inches and featuring a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The panel achieves a pixel density of 438ppi, the highest value achieved worldwide to date.
In comparison, as Phone Arena reports, the best performance to date is achieved by the panel of Samsung's Galaxy Tab PRO 8.4 tablet, which offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and a density of 359ppi. At the same time, JDI had already manufactured a 12.1-inch 4K2K LCD panel last year that achieved a pixel density of 365ppi.
The 10.1-inch panel manufactured by JDI uses LTPS (Low-temperature Poly Silicon) technology that offers low power consumption and a low profile, making it ideal for use in portable devices. In terms of technical characteristics, it offers a contrast ratio of 1100:1, viewing angles of 160 degrees and a brightness specified at 400 nits.
Beyond announcing the existence of this panel, JDI did not disclose whether any manufacturers have expressed interest in acquiring and using it in future tablets.
It is worth noting that Japan Display Inc. (JDI) is one of the leading manufacturers of small and medium-sized display panels, and is the leader in LTPS LCD panels. The company's panels are used in smartphones, tablets, in-dash devices, digital cameras, medical equipment, etc.
JDI was only created in April 2012, with the merger of the display panel manufacturing divisions of Japanese companies Sony, Hitachi and Toshiba.
