54th inthe ranking of the 100 cities with the most selfies (an increasingly popular "online" and non-online term for self-photographs, mainly via a mobile phone camera), with 46 "selfie takers" per 100,000 people. Thessaloniki also appears in the same ranking, at 73rd, with 36 per 100,000.
The term "selfie", which was already widely used, became even more well-known after Ellen DeGeneres' famous photo at the Oscars, which she uploaded to Twitter, in which she is surrounded by a crowd of celebrities.
The ranking was compiled by Time Magazine, which created a database of more than 400,000 Instagram photos that had been labeled as “selfies,” which included geographic coordinates. In total, 459 cities were evaluated to determine the “selfiest,” as the publication humorously refers to them, places in the world.
At the top of the list are the cities of Makati and Pasig, in the Philippines, with 258 selfie-takers per 100,000 people. They are followed by Manhattan, Miami, Anaheim and Santa Ana, Petaling Jaya in Malaysia, Tel Aviv, Manchester, Milan, Cebu City again in the Philippines, Georgetown in Malaysia, San Francisco, Oslo, Boston, Newark, Honolulu, Baguio (Philippines), Paris, Denpasar (Indonesia), Leeds, Las Vegas and others.
Washington is ranked 25th, Stockholm 6th, Dubai 63rd, and Rome 69th. London is ranked 93rd, while Nice in France "closes" the ranking, at 100th place, with 30 selfie-takers per 100,000 people.
