Windows 8.1 Update 1 is available for download, but Microsoft has not yet officially revealed the update version, preferring to let users get the package using all sorts of tricks.
It turns out, however, that the company has, although it published Update 1 on its website, not disclosed the download links publicly. So the guys from Mydigitallife took action.
If you download any of these packages and install them, it would be a good idea to create backups of your existing Windows 8.1.
Beginners and those who are not willing to try installing from these download links are advised to wait until early April, when Microsoft is expected to release Update 1 via Windows Update, making the installation much easier for everyone.

However, it is also possible to get the package via Windows Update, simply by making a small change to the registry.
Of course, this change is only recommended for advanced users and again, you are required to create a backup before proceeding.
As BAV0.com reports, you will need to add to the following registry path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
At this point create a new key named “SHWindowsPoolS14” and re-evaluate your computer. Once your system is up and running, simply go to Windows Update and check for new updates. You should be able to see one called “Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2919442) – (S14 Prerequisite v01.0008)” this is the patch released by Microsoft to prepare your computer for Windows 8.1 Update 1.
Install it and then check again for updates and this time you should get a patch KB2919355 which actually contains all of Windows 8.1 Update 1.
