Last week, Facebook announced that it would soon bring its Messenger app to the Windows platform, but did not provide further details about the exact availability of the instant messaging service.
It was also reported several days ago that Windows Phone 8.1 will get a new Facebook Messenger, which will be a standalone app and will not be integrated into the Facebook app.
There are also rumors that Facebook Messenger will come pre-installed on most devices running Windows Phone 8.1.
So if you thought Facebook Messenger wouldn't be coming to Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.1 mobile platform anytime soon, it looks like the app has just been released in the Windows Phone Store.
The Facebook Messenger is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices and brings most of the features already available on the other platforms (iOS and Android), with one exception: it does not provide voice capabilities.
Messenger works like SMS, except you don't have to pay for each message (it works with your data plan).
