Infographic: Digital information from social media prevails over print

It's no surprise: Digital news has far surpassed print news for those interested in news.

More than half of all internet users are connected to some form of social media, meaning they are more likely to come into contact with breaking news from other users sharing the information on these platforms. This is especially true on Twitter, where stories become famous even before they are published by print media.

In fact, 64.5% of Americans get their news online, and traffic to news websites generated by social media has increased by 57% since 2009. The New York Times and CNN websites have a particularly large amount of traffic from social media, with more than 10 million followers on Twitter each.
