February 11th is an important day for combating mass surveillance implemented by the US secret services worldwide. A broad coalition of activists joins forces to protest the unacceptable actions of the NSA.
The day was called “The Day We Fight Back” and is essentially a day of protest. The protest was announced a month ago, on the eve of the anniversary of the death of activist Aaron Swartz.
The protests will focus on mass surveillance, will honor Swartz's memory and remind of the anniversary of the 2012 SOPA internet blackout.
The list of participants in the protest “The Day We Fight Back” includes the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Fight for the Future, Free Press, Reddit, Mozilla, Tumblr and many others.
So far, over 5,000 websites have signed up for the protests that will start tomorrow. The websites that take part in the protest will display a special banner that will encourage visitors to contact Congress and ask them to oppose the recent bills that allow the NSA to operate unhindered.
