How would you like the idea of being able to make calls with 3D holograms? Soon, mobile phone users will be able to make calls with 3D holograms, according to Polish company Leia Display Systems, which says it has started working on such a device.
In a recent publication by the Mirror, the company says it is working on creating a system that will allow users to see 3D hologram images of the person on the other end of the line, just like in Star Wars.
The company seems confident that its solution will revolutionize video calling. “Our Holograms will take video calling to the next level,” said Leia Display SystemsMarcin Panek.
To make such a call, you will have to stand in front of a high-tech camera, which will have two lenses and a microphone.
The camera will create a set of the two images captured by its lenses, and then transfer the data via the internet to the recipient.
Of course, in order to view the 3D holograms from these calls, you will need a hologram projector to receive and display the images in question.
“We are close to the technology that was imagined in movies 40 years ago – science fiction is now becoming science fact,” said Panek.
However, the machines that display holograms are still very large. Over time, the company will manage to make them smaller. When we say smaller, don't imagine that it will be the size of a mobile phone. The smallest size by today's standards will fit on a coffee table.
Panek went on to explain that the idea for a hologram phone came from observing the 3D effects created by a laser on dry ice. Unfortunately, he did not give details on when such a device would be ready.
