WhatsApp users should be on the lookout for fake emails containing malware attachments. Conrad Longmore of Blog Dynamoo reports that the emails are titled “Your friend has just sent you a pic.” The messages urge recipients to open a WhatsApp photo, which comes as an attachment to the email.
The emails have nothing to do with WhatsApp. The attached file is named IMG003299 and has the extension .exe. Of course, the name of the attachment can be changed. It is an executable file containing malware from the Wauchos family. The threat is currently detected by only 9 antiviruses, according to VirusTotal.
