The Economic Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service identified two cases of "piracy" of subscription satellite services in areas of Heraklion, Crete.

For these cases, regular proceedings were filed against two Greek citizens, aged 41 and 46, who are accused of violating legislation relating to intellectual property and the protection of subscription services.

More specifically, the investigation of the cases began following lawsuits filed with the Economic Police & Cybercrime Prosecution Service by attorneys-at-law of anonymous companies providing services to electronic media. The lawsuits concerned satellite "piracy" of the services provided by the specific companies, through the illegal distribution of their television signal to a large number of "subscribers".

Specifically, in the first case it was reported that the 41-year-old provided, through the store he maintained in an area of Heraklion, Crete, the ability to watch subscription channels to a large number of users, without paying a subscription to the provider company.

In a search conducted at his store, one (1) internal computer hard drive was found and seized, which will be sent to forensic laboratories for the necessary laboratory tests.

In the second case, according to the complaint, unknown internet users, operating as a group and using servers and illegally modified decoders, illegally distributed electronic "keys" for decoding - decrypting the subscriber services of the complaining company to internet users.

From the digital investigation carried out in the context of the execution of a relevant Parliament resolution to lift the secrecy of communications, it was determined that one of the owners of the electronic traces is the 46-year-old Greek national.

The pre-investigation material compiled against those involved will be submitted to the Heraklion, Crete, First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
