Following our morning publication (which we later noticed was spreading without any mention of iGuRu.gr) the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement that essentially downplayed the publication of the documents by Anonymous. The newspaper Kathimerini reports:
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the documents made public by the Anonymous organization are press releases and material "exchanged via email.".
Via the Internet, the Anonymous organization published thousands of classified Greek documents from correspondence between the Directorate for Southeastern Europe, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
In their statement, Anonymous states: “We all know how bad the situation is today in Greece, alongside the economic chaos the government has allowed the Golden Dawn Nazis to sabotage the integrity of the entire country and European principles regarding freedom and morality.”
"Today we are putting a dent in the mockery with a series of leaks to reveal the truth about the Greek government's involvement in espionage with the help of ENISA and OSCE cybercrime units. Those responsible for the arrests of fellow lulz will be punished with Operation OP Payback."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the following statement on Monday evening:
“Today, Monday, October 14, an online post announced the successful breach by the activist group “Anonymous” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Directorate’s email. An investigation is underway into the exact circumstances and extent of the breach, and it is determined that it concerns material that is typically exchanged via email, including many Press Office releases.”
