The UK is preparing to create a new army to protect the country's networks and sensitive data. One of the goals of creating the cyber army will not only be defense, but also cyber attacks when required, as reported by the BBC. The UK army will have the ability to defend against attacks but also weapons to disable enemy communications and weapons. This means that cyber weapons will be used alongside conventional weapons such as those used on land, in the air and at sea. Defense Secretary Philip Hammond said that the security unit is necessary considering that last year, the UK blocked about 400,000 advanced, malicious cyber threats on the government's intranet. The Ministry of Defense will start recruiting reservists from next month.
