FlightGear , an open-source flight simulator that supports a variety of popular platforms and is developed by experienced volunteers from around the world, has today announced the release of version 2.12 .
The goal of the game for older children is to create a sophisticated and open-ended flight simulator framework for use in research or an academic environment, for pilot training, or as a tool for the aviation industry.
The new features of FlightGear 2.12 are:
• The simulation includes several lighting models, such as Rayleigh, terrain simulation with volumetric fog, ambient lights and realistic diffuse light with curves, etc.
• Clouds and winds are affected by terrain distribution and altitude.
• Startup time and memory usage have been reduced by implementing navigation data caching.
• The Nasal console has been improved to support copy/paste, making Nasal script development easier.
• Route Manager now has better support for Navigraphs.
