A team at Unifold hopes to change that in the near future. Pratt Institute students Haratio Yuxin Han and Kevin Crowleyhave created the Unifold, a shoe made from recyclable materials that takes shape by folding a cut-out print.
Very affordable and easy to make, perhaps Unifold could solve a global problem.
Made from a foamed ethylene vinyl acetate rubber material, Unifold shoes reduce the complex processes required to produce footwear, such as molding, lacing, sewing and gluing. Unifold's simple design makes it easier to manufacture, while reducing costs.
A shoe could be downloaded to your computer and then printed.
Currently, the Unifold idea is still in its early stages as reported by Mashable, but Han and his team are working hard to bring Unifold shoes to market. There are two Unifold models at the moment: an Asian style and a more complex sandal.
