Microsoft promised to deliver Windows 8.1 RTM to OEMs(computer manufacturers) by the end of August. It seems that the company will keep its promise since it has already finalized its new operating system.
A report from The Verge confirms that Windows 8.1 is now in RTM with 9600. The same report also reveals Microsoft's plans to release it to OEMs this week, ahead of general availability in October.
Unfortunately for MSDN and TechNet subscribers who were hoping to get Windows 8.1 RTM before its public release, it seems that the company is making serious efforts to prevent any leaks, so they will have to wait until October.
Windows 8.1 will be available as a free update from the Windows Store starting October 17th for those who already have Windows 8 installed, with a public release a day later.
