Microsoft recently confirmed that new versions of both the Surface RT and Pro tablets are expected to be released within the next 12 months, and Steve Ballmer finally gave more details about the new models in an interview.
Neowin.net reports that Ballmer used the opportunity to reiterate the high expectations they have for Windows 8.1, while also confirming that new Surfaces are currently in development.
No one really knows when they will be released because Microsoft insists on keeping it a secret, but some analysts expect the second generation of tablets to be released during the holiday season, along with an 8-inch tablet running Windows 8.1 as Microsoft plans to compete with Apple and Google and the new iPad mini as well as the new Nexus 7.
Additionally, sources familiar with the matter revealed that Microsoft plans to equip the refreshed Surface RT with a new Qualcomm processor that will provide users with an improved lineup of features, with LTE connectivity, increased speed, and better performance of the new 8.1 operating system.
Additionally, there is a rumor that Microsoft is planning to make the Surface Mini much more affordable, at a price of $299.
