Although smartphones are based on the idea of combining a smartphone with the advantages of a camera, Sony is preparing to launch a smartphone camera.
Rumor has it that Sony will soon introduce a lens-sized camera with a built-in sensor, battery, and memory that will fit into smartphones.
The “camera lens” will transmit images via NFC and Wi-Fi to your smartphone/tablet! You can place it on your smartphone, but you can also use it separately! You will be able to view the images directly on your mobile device.
It will be a completely new breed and possibly the smallest camera ever made on a large sensor. Rumor has it that the first lens to be released soon will feature the same RX100MII sensor and the same Zeiss lens! And there will be a second model with a smaller sensor and a larger zoom.
In theory, it should work with any smartphone device, although we suspect Sony will only make the device compatible with its own gadgets. The price will be $750 / €571 – €750, according to Sonyalpharumors.
It is worth mentioning, however, that something similar has existed as an idea for 2 years, which was not particularly well received by the market. Watch the relevant video.
