Now, when you create a personal hotspot with your iOS device, the best thing to do is to immediately change the password that Apple automatically creates for this purpose and set one of your own.
Researchers at the University of Erlangen in Germany have shown in their published study that it only takes a few seconds to crack the password that Apple creates. In their article titled “Usability vs. Security: The Everlasting Trade-Off in the Context of Apple iOS Mobile Hotspots,” they prove that the fact that Apple uses a random word as a password with a series of random numbers following it is not a secure method at all and someone can easily crack it, as they demonstrated with 52,500 such passwords.
Finally, the research concludes by saying that this tactic is not only available from Apple but exists on both Android and Windows devices.
