Louie Mantia is a former Apple designer who has also worked for other technology companies such as Square. He helped Scott Forstall in designing many iOS icons that were used before the redesign of iOS 7, including iBooks and Remote.
Despite the fact that he designed many of the icons with skeuomorphic designs in mind, he can also design flat icons. He recently posted his own proposal for preinstalled apps with flat icons that look a lot like the philosophy of iOS 7.
The messages icon has completely changed (I personally like it) and it has further simplified the Safari icon, making it, in our opinion, always more beautiful. We want to believe that Apple can make some minor design tweaks, given that iOS 7 is still in beta and subject to modification.
