Apple has received a lot of bad criticism from the Senate regarding its tax avoidance tactics, and now you can add Steve Wozniak to the list of people against Apple.
Woz said that Apple's tactics are unfair and suggested that Apple and other large companies should be taxed on their income.
In an interview with the BBC, Woz said the following:
People don't tax profits, but rather income, so companies should be taxed in the same way, it's the only fair way.
This means that companies should pay taxes on all their income, otherwise people only pay taxes on a small amount that you call profit. That's why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and as I always do for the weakest, that's why I founded Apple, to empower the weakest.
About two weeks ago, Tim Cook appeared before the Senate to speak about the company's tax practices. During the hearing, Cook said that the way it taxes needs to be rethought and brought up to speed for the digital age.
During his interview, Woz continued to oppose the way many people are taxed and said that as the system stands, everyone should be taxed based on their income.
Why aren't entrepreneurs taxed for starting their companies and buying cars? If they did that, the rest of the world would earn a lot more.
It's not fair, businesses aren't treated like the world.
Someone could say, "My life is my business, I pay for the house, I pay for the clothes, for the food, and whatever is left over I put aside, that is my profit," but people are not taxed based on their profit, but on their income.
