Edwards GearLive 's Andrew reported yesterday that he has inside information about the successor to the successful and innovative wristband that tracks and measures daily body movement with the aim of "providing motivation and inspiration for people to become more active." Activities are measured with a new unit of measurement called NikeFuel: the more active you are, the more NikeFuel you earn.

The ergonomic, user-friendly NIKE+ FuelBand is designed to be worn all day long. It uses accelerometers to provide information about various activities through wrist movement on an LED dot matrix display. Users set a daily goal for how active they want to be and what NikeFuel value they want to achieve. The NIKE+ FuelBand displays a series of 20 LED indicators that change from red to green as the user approaches their goal.

The FuelBand syncs with the Nike+ website via a built-in USB port or wirelessly (via Bluetooth) with a free iPhone app to record daily activity and track progress. The app interface also provides encouraging feedback and motivation as goals are achieved.

It is a product that has been very successful in America and is a fervent fan and admirer of it, including Apple's Tim Cook, who always wears one on his hand. Moreover, the relationship between Apple and Nike is very close and deep, with a kiss that goes back a long way in time.

Andru  Edwards reports that Nike will soon release its successor with improvements that include a better display, added heart rate measurements, Bluetooth 4.0 support for better synchronization and battery life, and access to accelerometer data by developers with a better and public API that the company will provide.

According to the same source, the successor to the NIKE+ FuelBand has already been manufactured and is in the process of extensive testing in real conditions, but no one yet knows for sure when Nike will make it available for sale.

It should be noted that the excellent relations between Apple and Nike have led many to believe that Apple's anticipated iWatch will incorporate some of the features of the current NIKE+ FuelBand.
