More proof that the iPad killed the PC

SteveJobs-Wide

For those of you who have been following PC sales and have read about their unprecedented decline, the following will be further proof that we are now in a post-PC era and that year after year, sales of the once-powerful machines will continue to fall.

For the first time in history, tablet sales will surpass those of PCs in 2013. Not bad considering that it comes from a category that when it was created with the appearance of the iPad, PC manufacturers mocked it and considered Steve Jobs and Apple crazy for expecting to make profits from such a “gadget”. Just 4 years later, the big turnaround came from a “gadget” and has shaken an entire industry.

NPD DisplaySearch reports today that global tablet sales will skyrocket to 256.5 million, reaching 579.4 million by 2017.

The only two products that continue to resist are Ultrabooks like the Macbook Air and the new hybrid laptops that are also touchscreens and are the last hope of manufacturers, since the above study reports an increase in their sales by 48% by 2014.

The PC is now officially a product that people don't necessarily need, as its basic functions have been transferred to devices like the iPhone and iPad. It's not going to disappear from our lives, of course, and people will continue to use it, but as the years go by, less and less, resulting in its sales continuing to fall.

The iPad revolution was a success and Steve Jobs' vision 4 years later is a reality!
