Internet blackouts are a form of protest that has become quite popular with all the recently proposed legislation that poses a threat to privacy and civil liberties. Now that the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) has passed the US House, Anonymous hackers have just announced another Internet blackout.
According to the video statement released by the hacktivists, the blackout will take place on April 22, 2013.
“This bill would allow major internet sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Google to freely share your information withthe U.S. government. This would not only affect users in the United States, but anyone who has an account with these companies, ” they say in their video. personal
“Next Monday, April 22, we invite you to join Anonymous a in an Internet blackout. We encourage all web developers and website owners to not operate their websites on this date. It would be good statement explaining their action and encourage others to do the same ”.
Such protests have been quite effective in the past, especially when major websites joined the protest, as was the case with the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) bill.
