Just when we thought the tense situation in China was heading towards normalization for Apple, a Wall Street Journal today reports a new attack against the company from Cupertino, orchestrated as always by Apple's communist government.
The state-run newspaper, People's Daily, one of the largest in the world, mentions the name of Apple's App Store among other online stores that it accuses with heavy characterizations of distributing pornographic content in China and which are under state surveillance.
Back in 2009, Google was accused of something similar by the country's state-run channel, China Central Television, resulting in Google receiving a massive hacker attack within a few weeks. The result was the company closing its offices in China and moving them to Hong Kong.
The Chinese government has for many years waged a massive war on sites and blogs that it considers to contain pornographic content and has shut down many thousands of them.
To accomplish this quixotic task, it has launched repeated campaigns to block illicit material online, shuttered hundreds of websites and blog accounts, and even called Internet executives into industry-wide meetings to call for greater vigilance,” WSJ reports.
On the other hand, Apple may be one of the few companies with such strict measures against the distribution of pornography on the App Store, but this seems not to have stopped Chinese officials from attacking it once again and tarnishing the company's name, since as we have mentioned here, the causes are deeper.
Everything indicates that China will continue its efforts to throw Apple out of the country.
