The issue of the distance from your home to the urban center where the company's equipment that could provide you with Internet access services is hosted is being brought up again by Cyta, a subsidiary of the National Telecommunications Organization of Cyprus, on the occasion of its new offer for VDSL. If you are more than 1 kilometer away, you will not receive VDSL speeds, Cyta points out.
Specifically, the company insists that "Cyta correctly positions the issue of limiting the Customer's distance of 1,000 meters from the Urban Center (UC), clarifying in particular that (although it is often not realized) this concerns all VDSL providers in Greece, since it is a technical peculiarity of the specific technology and not a characteristic that may only concern some."

It is known that the distance from the VDSL equipment is the most decisive parameter for the speed of Internet access, although it is not the only one. At present, the presence of equipment in a cabin is extremely limited (in places counted on the fingers of one hand) and therefore, the distance from the respective urban center where the provider's equipment is housed/hosted also determines the final speeds.
- Therefore, before requesting VDSL from any provider (all of them provide VDSL only in a package format with a landline service) you should know the distance that separates you from the urban center (of OTE, from whose infrastructure VDSL is mostly provided in Greece today). If the distance is greater than 1,000 meters, you should not count on higher speeds compared to ADSL.
- In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission published a study that it established in 2011, in which it reports overall for the US market and per provider the actual speeds achieved on each network during peak hours in relation to the advertised rates and even by technology (including xDSL).
Cyta, aimed at home users, is offering for a limited time and for one year the VDSL 2play service with speeds of 35Mbps download and 3Mbps upload with a monthly fixed fee reduced to €23 per month, “the same as an ADSL connection at 24 Mbps”. Also, the VDSL 2play service at 50Mbps/10Mbps download/upload is provided at a promotional price for one year at €29 per month. Correspondingly, for professionals and small businesses the promotional price for 1 year for VDSL 2play at 35Mbps is set at €26/month and at €32/month for VDSL 2play at 50Mbps.
