Ran Ortner is a 52 year old artist from New York. His lifelong passion is the sea and surfing. He started surfing on the beaches of California when he was 18, and continued his hobby throughout his life. Through his work we can see his passion for the sea and his feelings for it.
“In my works, there is a clash of opposites, from violence to destructive sensitivities. Through my painting I try to maintain my contact with the harsh reality of life,” says Ran.
One of Ortner's most successful paintings is "Open Water." In 2009, he won $250,000 at the ArtPrize competition for this work.
