Bill Gates is, without a doubt, a very rich man. The co-founder and chairman of Microsoft is currently the richest person in the US and the second richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $63.4 billion. However, in an interview, he says that all that money doesn't mean much to him.
The interview was given to the Telegraph website, and Gates stated:
I am certainly well off since I have food and clothing. Money has no use for me beyond a certain point. Its use is entirely in building an organization whose resources will go to the poorest people in the world.
That organization is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which uses its resources to stop deadly diseases in third-world countries, but also to improve education in the U.S. So far, the group has given away a whopping $28 billion. Gates says that 95 percent of his fortune will go to the foundation, and that the money will all be spent 20 years after his and his wife's deaths, Neowin reports.
Gates says there is no specific religious reason that makes him want to help others “… it has to do with human dignity and equality. The golden rule that all lives have equal value and we should treat people as we would like to be treated.”
