[su_heading size=”18″]Do you miss the good old days of World of Warcraft before the endless changes turned it into something different?[/su_heading]
You're not alone! Hundreds of thousands of people played Nostalrius, a fan-run server that had gone back to basics, until Blizzard decided to shut it down in April over a copyright scare. However, the studio is listening to players' complaints! So Blizzard is telling all World of Warcraft fans that it has started thinking about running its own "virgin" servers, without the changes and boosts that have come to the game over all these years.

There's no concrete plan yet, so don't expect it to happen anytime soon! But it's definitely not just Blizzard's words. Discussions have been ramping up since Nostralius shut down, and the company is even talking to some of the Nostralius administrators. You might see a more official server emerge that will at least have some of the features offered by the alternative solution created by the World of Warcraft community.
It may seem a bit strange that Blizzard would consider such a retro server when the logical thing to do is to want users to try out the latest features. But there is a logic to this move. World of Warcraft is turning 12 years old and its subscriber base is dwindling. By creating such a server of historical significance, the company will not only avoid legal issues but will also keep some veteran fans from canceling their subscriptions.
Although this will not lead to a revival of the game, it will help delay the inevitable!
