New Blu-Ray DVDs with 100GB capacity will change the way we watch high-definition movies.
The Blu-Ray Disc Association has made the 4K Blu-ray standard official, a year after we first heard about it, by filing the specifications that will allow 4K content to be stored on Blu-ray DVDs.
The new protocol will allow the creation of dual-layer 4K Blu-ray discs with a capacity of 66GB and triple-layer 4K Blu-ray discs with a capacity of 100GB, which means that these DVDs will be able to store higher resolution video with much better colors and support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) video.
Of course, 4K TVs with the new Bluray discs will offer even greater detail in dark and bright images, while the new discs still do not support 4K 3D.
Finally, the new DVDs are expected to appear on the market near the end of the year.
