Converting kinetic energy into electricity is nothing new. However, Ampy is the first attempt to mass-produce a small-sized device that will make it a reality and help us extend the autonomy of our mobile phones.
Ampy has a 1000mAh battery and a special, quite sophisticated mechanism that charges it from the movement of our body.
Since we are unable to verify this, we have to settle for the claims of its creators, who in their Kickstarter campaign claim that by jogging for thirty minutes or cycling for an hour, you can fully charge its battery and give an average smartphone 75% of a full charge.
For guys who spend their lives on the couch, the device is useless. But for all those who run around the neighborhood every morning, the free charging of their mobile phone is another incentive along with the better health they get from running.
The $75 cost of the device is not an unreasonable amount as it is similar to the cost of an extra battery from those we buy in stores.
