The Cybercrime Directorate has been involved in investigating a case of child pornography, filing a case against a 17-year-old Greek from Giannitsa. They were asking a minor girl to send obscene content.
The Cybercrime Directorate investigated a case of child pornography and illegal penetration of computer systems and networks, for which a police operation was organized and carried out in the Giannitsa area.
A regular criminal case was filed against a 17-year-old Greek resident of the Giannitsa area. As it turned out, the 17-year-old was a co-administrator – along with a person abroad – of a social networking website profile, through which he had received threats from a minor residing in the said foreign country, to send her photos with obscene content.
Regarding the history of the case, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate was informed by the authorities of the aforementioned foreign country about a case of child pornography, via a social networking website, during the investigation of which electronic traces emerged in Greek territory. At the same time, for the same case, the involvement of an individual in the said country had also emerged.
In particular, a minor residing in this country had received threats from a user of the social networking website's profile to send personal indecent photographs, which she did.
After thorough digital research and analysis, three Greek internet service providers were identified, which had been used to operate the profile in question.
The confidentiality of the communications was lifted, following a prosecutor's order, and the three Greek operators-owners of the said internet connections were identified, in the Giannitsa area.
An investigation revealed that the co-administrator of the profile in question on the social networking website was the 17-year-old son of one of the above. It also emerged that the perpetrator had also breached – penetrated the wireless networks – internet connections of the other two aforementioned individuals, using special software programs and was using them to make it difficult to locate him.
During the investigation, one (1) internal hard drive was found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.
The case file drawn up for the case will be submitted to the competent Prosecution Authority. Furthermore, the aforementioned foreign national, who is involved in the same case, has been arrested by the competent foreign Authorities.
