About a month ago, it was reported that many users were unable or having difficulty upgrading to Windows XP due to a bug in SVCHOST that causes a computer's CPU to use up to 100%. Microsoft has not announced anything about the vulnerability.

Microsoft is still working on a fix, and will officially end support for Windows XPin less than five months. InfoWorld reports that the issue was supposed to be fixed in this month's "Patch Tuesday" releases. However, it appears that the patch was ineffective against the SVCHOST bug.
