Israel Defense Forces prepare to respond to cyberattacks

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which has been conducting military operations since 1948, are preparing to defend cyberspace from hackers.

The fight against cybercrime is coordinated by the Israeli Army's "Teleprocessing Corps". The Lotem - C4i Technological Division is the unit responsible for the development of new technologies and cyber.

This unit is one of the largest security organizations in Israel and is said to employ thousands of security and mathematical experts. Soldiers serving in this unit receive three months of training in cybersecurity.

“We look at the technologies that are available and try to imagine scenarios where we would need them. Many times we use the opposite approach: We look at the problems we face and try to create appropriate technologies to solve them,” says a lieutenant colonel at Lotem.

The Israeli Army also has a Cyber Defense Division that deals with cyber threats 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, each branch of the army is assigned to officers who are experts in cyber defense.

In May 2013, the Israeli military also acquired two major software companies, which have now been merged into a single unit.
