New accessories for the smartphone
The makers and developers of the foldable Fairphone 2 smartphone have this week unveiled a new range of 3D printed accessories that follow the launch of the smartphone's first commercial launch earlier this week.
The Fairphone 2 accessories are designed by Alan Nguyen and take the form of the Fairphone 2 Nightstand and Amplifier. They are both 3D printed on an Ultimaker 3D printer using colorFabb woodFill filament, making them among the first mobile phone accessories to be printed using wood filament.
The Fairphone 2 is the first modular phone on the market. Designed for repair, spare parts are available in our store to cope with whatever life throws at them. The new Fairphone 2 accessories are available through the 3D printing network 3D Hubs and are now available to order even if you don't have a 3D printer readily available. Fairphone explains:
To help kick off the launch of Fairphone 2, we’ve partnered with Fairphone to introduce a new collection of 3D printable accessories for Fairphone owners. These accessories will add extra functionality and style to your Fairphone 2. Instead of being mass- produced like most other smartphone accessories, these 3D printed accessories will be shipped to order, eliminating both unnecessary shipping and overproduction. Even better, the designs are printed on a unique material derived from recycled wood fibers and bioplastic PLA.
Designed by professional industrial designer Alan Nguyen and printed in woodFill 3D filament, the Fairphone 2 Nightstand is the perfect charging and docking point for your device during the night. The amplifier is the ideal and portable solution for users looking for a more amplified audio experience.
