The technology giant, Google is always looking for new ways and features that will make things easier for users in all areas, and this time it offers us some changes to the functions of Google Drive and Google Docs.
Among the changes are security features, sending notifications when someone shares, invites, and gives access to files.
“When you store your important files somewhere, you want peace of mind… You want your files to be secure and easy to access,” said Alex Vogenthaler, product manager for the Google Drive team. “That’s why everything in Drive is encrypted. And that’s why we encourage all of our users to do a simple security check every now and then. Of course, that should include file sharing, as it should be easy to control who sees what.”.
Google is working to make these "musts" a reality, with several improvements, including sharing notifications.
“You may have noticed recently that it’s easier to select and share multiple files and folders on iOS and Android — but checking your email may not be the fastest way to find out if something has already been shared with you,” Vogenthaler said. Drive now sends notifications to mobile devices to let users know as soon as a file or folder is created and shared with their account. Users can then tap their smartphone screens and be taken to Drive.
Google is also working to address a common problem for users – recipients can’t open documents because senders share links with them before granting them access. The Drive for Android app lets recipients click on links to request access when they discover they can’t open the files. Both the iOS and Android apps notify the user immediately, so there’s no delay in granting that access. Additionally, users can view shared files on their Android devices, even if they don’t have Google accounts.
