Information indicates that the Hellenic Police's Cyber Crime Directorate, following an investigation - carried out in execution of a prosecutor's order for Yanis Varoufakis ' so-called "plan B" - did not detect any trace of a breach in the information system of the General Secretariat of Public Revenues...
It is recalled that the head of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, Elias Zagoraios, in the context of the preliminary examination, which is being conducted for the non-political persons who participated in the so-called "plan B" of the former Minister of Finance, ordered the head of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate, Manolis Sfakianakis, to conduct a relevant investigation.
However, sources report that the inspection conducted by a Greek Police team at the service's offices did not find any attempt at intervention.
Pending tax data trading cases
Hellenic Police officials, on the occasion of the investigation into the possible "hacking" at the General Secretariat of Public Revenue, recalled that "in eight cases that had been investigated in recent years, the "trading" of citizens' tax and financial data for approximately 1 billion euros had been established with the involvement of approximately 20 employees of the Ministry of Finance who seized and resold the relevant information." Most of these cases remain pending in court.
It should be noted that the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, although a similar investigation is being conducted in the context of a sworn administrative examination (EDE) following an order from the Secretary General of Revenue, Mrs. Katerina Savvaidou, deemed it appropriate to request an expert opinion from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate because, on the one hand, it can complete it more quickly, and on the other hand, because it wants to have in its hands two expert opinions from different bodies.
Prosecutorial sources reported that this week the first witnesses – who will come from the political sphere – are expected to be called to testify in the context of the prosecutorial investigation that began following indictments filed with the Supreme Court Prosecutor's Office.
