Malwarebytes: Free conversion of pirated licenses to legitimate ones
Security company Malwarebytes is offering allpirated users of its anti-virus software 12 months of free protection.
Anyone who uses an illegal Malwarebytes software activation key will automatically obtain a legal key valid for 12 months with the next update of the application.
The company from San Jose, California announced that it will replace the keys of the anti-virus software for those using pirated. The so‑called program «amnesty» will replace all illegal keys, giving the company control of the software, in exchange for 12 months free updates.
Why?
The CEO of the company Marcin Kleczynski, in a message on the forum, said that this move was partly because during the early days of the software distribution, the developers used a very insecure algorithm for key generation, which made the generation of pirate keys very easy.
Thus the company, together with the 12‑month offer, is developing a stronger license key generation system. The offer exists simply because there is no other way to separate legitimate users from illegal users.
"If you're a pirate, you'll get a one-year license of the Malwarebytes app for free ," Kleczynski said.
