The computer market trend is downward for 2015 – Windows 10 is considered a breather: Research firm IDC predicts a decline of up to 6.2% in the global computer market in its latest report.
More specifically, the company's forecast sets the sales limit at 289 million systems compared to 294.1 million recorded in 2014. Furthermore, forecast wants the landscape to remain the same in 2016, although with a marginal improvement of 0.2%.
According to IDC analysis, the personal computer market declined by 2.2% in 2014, while 2013 was also in sharp decline, with the decrease compared to 2012 approaching a double-digit percentage (9.8%)
The company's analysts attribute this year's predicted - poor - market performance to the expected launch of Windows 10, but also to the ongoing pressure exerted on computers by competing devices.
More specifically, low demand, due to the fact that many buyers are waiting for the arrival of Windows 10 this summer before making purchases, as well as increasing competition from tablets and smartphones, are putting pressure on the computer industry.
As noted in IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker, the expected launch of Windows 10 will provide a significant boost to sales, but it will not be strong enough to turn the PC market around in 2015.
