Skype forced to shut down due to a bug

skype-bugMicrosoft's Skype is reacting with a forced shutdown due to a bug that affects and crashes all of the service's applications.

This error affects both computers and mobile devices running the program in question and operating on Windows.

The bug that causes the application to forcefully terminate is triggered by either sending or receiving a specific type of message.

The error is caused by the following text:

If you type “https://:” without the quotes, depending on the platform you are using, the application will stop working on your device or the chat window where you typed the above text will close.

Microsoft has already confirmed the issue in a statement, but according to the same statement there is still no update that can fix this problem.

The bug was first reported by users on the support forums and it appears that the application, which runs on Mac OS X and Linux platforms, remains unaffected so far. It should be noted that the bug only occurs on devices, both portable and non-portable, that use Windows.
