WHAT MANOLIS SFAKIANAKIS REVEALS ABOUT THE ACTION OF THE HACKERS – THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A RUSSIAN WHO WAS BENEFIED WITH 3 MILLION DOLLARS

New information about the way hackers operate, who have managed to "scam" 4 million euros from Greek companies, is being brought to light by the director of the Cybercrime Prosecution, Manolis Sfakianakis.

Speaking on Sunday's "Real News", Mr. Sfakianakis states that online and electronic penetration of company accounting is currently an international phenomenon.

According to him, behind the major attacks carried out by professional hackers are individuals from Russia. In fact, as he revealed, investigations have focused on a Russian "baron" of such fraudsters, as he characteristically stated, who infiltrate bank accounts and company accounting. His name is Evgeni Bogachev and he is on a $3 million bounty.

Mr. Sfakianakis, describing how these hackers , revealed that "after they choose the small or large company they will "hit", they break into the company and manage to electronically penetrate its accounting". Then, according to the head of the Prosecution, they identify which businesses it does business with and mainly which suppliers the company sends money to.

"So let's say that the company pays money to supplier X, depositing money into a bank account at such and such bank. Hackers open an account at the same bank and then go into the company's electronic files that have already been "cracked" and simply change the account number," he said.

However, according to Mr. Sfakianakis, there is a second way of acting. After stealing the logos of the supplier company, they send an e-mail to the targeted business, which says: “We are your so-and-so supplier and we want to inform you that from now on transactions must be made through our new bank account, which we are sending you.”
