Jacque Montague Raymer was delighted to announce the immediate availability for download of the MakuluLinux Unity 8 operating system.
This is the first version of the MakuluLinux distribution to use the Unity desktop environment from the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
MakuluLinux Unity 8 is based on the Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, distributed as a 64-bit live DVD that supports UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems and provides users with some unique features that are not found in the Unity Desktop on any Ubuntu distribution.
“It's a unique 3-panel system that gives the user full control of their system, without even needing to minimize a window. This version is 64-bit, with EFI support and offers the Constructor tool for creating custom ISO. There are so many more features that simply make this version stand out! It's not just Unity, it's Makulu Unity”, the release announcement said.
Highlights of MakuluLinux Unity 8 include a three-panel system, a unique multi-mode bottom panel, a traditional menu, updated notifications at the bottom of the panel, out-of-the-box A2DP support, a full office suite, Steam for Linux, Wine and PlayOnLinux for Windows gamers, Dropbox and MEGA client, and out-of-the-box support for the latest graphics cards from Nvidia, ATI, and Intel.
Additionally, the distribution comes with a very large driver base, integrated firewall and antivirus software for OS security, a large collection of themes and wallpapers, unique desktop widgets powered by Conky, the Makulu Constructor for creating custom MakuluLinux editions, a wide variety of software packages for daily use, many third‑party PPA repositories, an optional Liquorix kernel and support for 32‑bit architectures.
Among other things, interesting features found in the new MakuluLinux Unity 8 include support for many Apple devices, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacBook, iBook and PowerBook laptops, support for Toshiba laptops, the TLP advanced power management tool, Netflix and PopcornTime, as well as Compiz-powered effects and transparency for certain applications.
